Buger is one of the most attractive villages in Majorca, set in a rural environment with green valleys. The area is justly proud of its agricultural heritage, supported by the fertility of the land and the irrigation provided by the local windmills, which are such a feature of this area.
The village is made even more pretty by the many lovely gardens that are tended by the local people, and the amount of work and effort that has gone in to renovating so many of the local houses. Tourist accommodation is not plentiful here, which is partly why the traditional Majorcan atmosphere has been well preserved in this village.
The beautiful surroundings with rolling hills and the impressive views of the Tramuntara mountain range are a magnet for hikers, walkers and cyclists. A particular feature of the landscape is the grassy, flower dotted terrain, with its ferny forests and gnarled olive trees, which is bisected by a river called the Torrent de Buger.
One feature of the village is a fully restored windmill with new sails, the Moli de Can Garindo. There are other windmills on the outskirts of the village that have been left in their original condition. The original village limits are marked by some ancient crosses known as the Creus de Terme crosses, and these were in the past used to celebrate the Holy Week processions. The Church of Sant Pere is the oldest church in the village; construction being completed in the 1700’s.
